Long-Lasting Consequences of Fender Benders

Even Minor Car Accidents Can Have a Major Impact

Despite fender benders usually happening at a low speed, they can have long-term consequences. It is essential that you seek medical treatment immediately after any collision and contact an attorney if another person was responsible for the accident. You might be entitled to compensation to cover your injuries and the damage to your vehicle.

At Injured 661, we work with individuals who have been hurt in car accidents throughout the Santa Clarita area. Our experienced legal team fights hard to maximize damages and ensure that injury victims receive the recovery they deserve. If you were injured in a fender bender or other car accident, contact our office at (661) 917-2224 for a free consultation.

What Is a Fender Bender?

A fender bender is generally considered a low-speed collision between two vehicles. Unfortunately, many people assume that fender benders are “minor” and do not require legal representation. The truth is that even small car accidents can result in huge problems, from latent injuries to unseen damage to the vehicle.

If you are involved in a fender bender that was caused by another driver, it is strongly recommended that you consult with a car accident attorney as soon as possible. An attorney will review your case to determine whether you should file a claim for damages against a negligent driver and their insurance company.

What Long-Lasting Consequences Can Result from a Minor Car Wreck?

“Minor” car wrecks can still have a major impact on your health, your finances, and your ability to work. One of the most deceiving things about fender benders is the potential for injuries. An unexpected collision may leave your body in shock, making it difficult to tell whether you have suffered harm.

Common injuries after a fender bender include:

It is imperative to seek medical treatment immediately. Untreated injuries can get worse quickly, requiring additional procedures or rehabilitation to heal.

Vehicle Damage

In addition to injuries, you may have damage to your vehicle that goes beyond surface scrapes and dents. A fender bender can throw off your car’s alignment, bend the frame, create suspension issues, or worse. If you assume your vehicle is fine and do not get it repaired, you could do long-term, irreversible damage.

Do I Need an Attorney?

It is always in your best interest to consult an attorney after being involved in a car accident, even a fender bender. Depending on the situation, you might be entitled to compensation for your injuries and the damages to your vehicle.

Without legal representation, an at-fault driver’s insurance company may try to get you to settle for less than your case is worth. Once you accept a settlement, you will lose your right to pursue additional compensation for injuries or other damages that were not immediately apparent.

Santa Clarita is Home of the Worst Intersection

Over 1,200 Daily Hours Lost Waiting at Popular Santa Clarita Intersection

According to a new study, Santa Clarita is home to the worst intersection in the state. Stop lights throughout Southern California are notoriously long, leading to aggravated drivers. In order to avoid preventable accidents, it is important to practice defensive driving, remain calm, and avoid distractions while waiting at (even the longest) red lights.

Often, frustrated drivers make reckless decisions leading to devastating accidents and injuries. At Injured 661, we offer dedicated representation for car accident victims throughout the area. If you are involved in a car accident at a Santa Clarita intersection, contact our office at (661) 917-2224 for a free consultation.

Long Delays, Frustrated Drivers

A new study reported on by Patch.com shows that drivers in Californians spend a combined 2.7 million hours waiting at red lights each day. To make matters worse, the time of day with the most delays is in the middle of Friday’s afternoon commute from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

According to an analysis by INRIX, on average, drivers spend 45 seconds waiting for a light to change. Californians spend more time waiting at red lights compared to most other drivers across the country. A typical trip in the state took 16.5 minutes, with nearly 10% of that spent waiting at a signal.

Worst County to Drive Through?

What may be surprising to some Santa Clarita drivers is that Orange County was ranked the worst county in California to drive through with 122.3 hours of delay each day. The county ranked 6th highest in the nation.

Worst Intersections?

Unsurpring, however, is the fact that two of the worst intersections in the state were in Santa Clarita. Leading the pack was the intersection at Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road. The intersection earned its place with 1,260 daily hours lost to delays.

In 5th place was the intersection at Valencia Boulevard and Bouquet Canyon Road. An estimated 1006 daily hours are lost at this traffic signal. All of the other top ten “worst intersections” were located throughout Southern California including four in Orange County.

Staying Safe on Congested Roadways

At Injured 661, we know how frustrating the intersections are in Santa Clarita. We live and work in the community. Long delays can be especially frustrating when you are in a hurry. Unfortunately, agitated drivers can make impulsive decisions leading to serious car accidents.

If you are delayed at an intersection remember to:

It is unlikely that the length of a traffic signal is going to change any time soon. If you find yourself always in a rush, consider leaving a few minutes earlier to avoid being late. In the event that you are involved in an accident, contact our office to discuss your legal options.

Hundreds Affected by Power Pole Crash

Approximately 335 customers were affected by a Canyon Country power outage, as noted by  KHTS news. The outage was caused when a driver allegedly hit a power pole located near Whites Canyon Road and Steinway Street. A spokesperson for Southern California Edison noted that in order to restore power and fix the pole, crews had to “de-energize power” in the nearby area.

A second power outage was reported the same day in Stevenson Ranch, caused by a two-car accident shortly after 8:45, according to reports. The collision resulted in downed wires impacting the power of approximately 475 customers. One person was injured in the crash and transported to the hospital.

What to Do If You Hit a Power Pole or Cause Downed Wires

As you can see, it is not that uncommon for a driver to accidentally collide with a power pole or other electrical equipment. It is vital to remain calm and take steps to protect yourself and others if you are involved in this kind of crash.

If you hit a utility pole or power distribution box:

Any car accident can be scary, but one involving a live power line can be terrifying. It is vital to do precisely what you are told. When you are on the phone with the dispatcher, be sure to inform them that you struck a power pole or other electrical equipment so that they can send for the proper crews.
